Moving in Ridgewood, Queens: Row Houses, Stoops and New Truck Routes

Updated October 11, 2026

Queens movers since 1999: family run, licensed and insured.

Updated October 11, 2026

Ridgewood sits on the Brooklyn border, next to Bushwick, with block after block of early 20th-century brick row houses and walk-up apartment buildings. Moves here are usually short, but stoops, narrow halls and busy curbs need a plan.

Historic row houses

On December 9, 2014 the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission approved the Central Ridgewood Historic District: 990 buildings, mostly brick row houses, most of them built between 1906 and the First World War. It lies near the earlier Ridgewood North and Ridgewood South historic districts. LPC notes that many original brownstone stoops, wood doors and iron fences, railings and gates are still in place; its notable streetscapes include 69th Avenue, Madison Street and Catalpa Avenue. Landmark status is about the outside of the buildings; it does not add moving rules by itself, but your landlord or building may have its own.

Stoops, gates and narrow stairs

A typical Ridgewood move means a stoop outside and a narrow stair inside. Measure the front door, the stair turns and the apartment door, and tell us about sofas, sectionals, box springs and dressers. Some pieces will need to come apart. Keep the gate open and the path clear on moving day, and tell us if the stoop is steep or the railing is loose.

Truck routes in Ridgewood and Glendale changed

NYC DOT truck route changes that took effect on October 4, 2026 add St. Felix Avenue between Cypress Avenue and Cooper Avenue, Cooper Avenue between 66th Street and Cypress Hills Street, Cypress Hills Street between 65th Place and Cooper Avenue, and 73rd Place by Cooper Avenue. Nearby in Maspeth, Maspeth Avenue between Page Place and 48th Street is added and Rust Street between Grand Avenue and Flushing Avenue is removed. A truck leaves the truck route only to reach its stop, so these changes decide how the crew approaches your block.

The curb on moving day

Ridgewood streets are lined with parked cars. Alternate side parking applies on many blocks, and on suspension days cars tend to stay all day. An early start helps. Tell us about hydrants, bus stops and driveways near your door, and whether a neighbor can leave a spot open.

Ridgewood to Bushwick and back

Many moves cross the Queens-Brooklyn line between Ridgewood and Bushwick. Both sides have walk-ups and row houses, so the same rules apply: measure, keep boxes light for the stairs, and book a morning start. Moves within New York State are covered by our NYSDOT license 34875.

Common questions

Is Ridgewood, Queens a historic district?

Parts of it are. The Landmarks Preservation Commission approved the 990-building Central Ridgewood Historic District on December 9, 2014; Ridgewood North and Ridgewood South were designated earlier.

Does living in a landmark district change moving day?

Landmark rules cover changes to the outside of buildings, not moving. Your landlord or building may still have its own move rules.

Which truck routes changed in Ridgewood?

From October 4, 2026, NYC DOT added parts of St. Felix Avenue, Cooper Avenue, Cypress Hills Street and 73rd Place, and removed Rust Street in Maspeth.

How long does a Ridgewood walk-up move take?

It depends on the floors, the furniture and how close the truck can park. Tell us those details and the written estimate will reflect them.
