Moving to Flushing or Bayside: Routes, Buildings and Moving Day

Updated October 10, 2026

Flushing and Bayside are in northeast Queens: Flushing has busy streets and many elevator buildings, Bayside has more houses and garden apartments. Moves here from Manhattan, Brooklyn or western Queens follow the expressways, not the parkways.

Why the truck does not take the parkway

NYC DOT closes most of the City parkway system to commercial vehicles. In Queens that includes the Cross Island Parkway, the Belt Parkway, the Jackie Robinson Parkway and most of the Grand Central Parkway. Moving trucks use expressways and truck routes instead, so plan the timing around expressway traffic, not parkway shortcuts.

Flushing: elevator buildings and busy curbs

Most elevator buildings ask for a booked move time, a reserved service elevator and a certificate of insurance. Ask management for the sample COI a week before. Downtown Flushing streets are busy all day, so a morning start and a clear plan for where the truck stops make a big difference.

Bayside: houses, driveways and garden apartments

House moves usually have a driveway or a quieter curb, but longer carries and more furniture. Garden apartments may have courtyards and walkways between the street and your door. Tell us about steps, walkways and anything heavy, like a piano or a safe.

Moving on to Long Island?

From Bayside or Flushing into Nassau County, the Cross Island Parkway and New York State parkways such as the Northern State are closed to commercial vehicles. Trucks use the Long Island Expressway. A move within New York State is licensed by NYSDOT; our NYSDOT number is 34875.

A short checklist for Flushing and Bayside

For a house: clear the driveway and the path to the door, take photos of large pieces before the move, and empty the garage and basement shelves early, because they take longer than people expect. For an apartment: book the elevator, send the COI sample to your mover and confirm the move hours. In both cases, keep a box of first-night items with you: bedding, towels, a kettle, chargers and a few tools.

Common questions

Can moving trucks use the Cross Island Parkway?

No. NYC DOT lists the Cross Island Parkway among the parkways closed to commercial vehicles.

Which highway does a moving truck take to Bayside?

Usually the Long Island Expressway or other expressways and truck routes, never the parkways.

Do Flushing buildings require a COI?

Most elevator buildings do. Ask for the sample certificate and send it to the mover about a week before.

Can you move us from Flushing to Long Island?

Yes. Moves within New York State are covered by our NYSDOT licence 34875.
